Fiskardo's Environmental Museum

The Hellenic Foundation for Youth and Volunteering (Former known as Fiskardo's Nautical & Environmental Club - FNEC) is a non profit making NGO established on the island of Kefalonia in Greece, operated exclusively by volunteers including the members of the club and the board of committee. The club receives international volunteers from all over the world. In 2003 the club (fnec) was nominated by the European Commission Youth initiative -European Voluntary Service -EVS- as one of the best 3 projects in Europe. Throughout the years the club has also received several awards from the Greek authorities. The main activities are: Provide an informal environmental information centre - Provide search and rescue services both on land and at sea - Encourage Youth exchanges between young people for the benefit of community development .

The club operates two Cultural Centres. The Fiskardo's Environmental Museum and the Argostolion Cultural Centre and Handicraft studio! The first is open to visitors and volunteers the summer season (May-October) when the second one is open all year round!

The history of the Hellenic Foundation for Youth & Volunteering starts back in 1996. It is the year that our president (to be) arrives on a sailing yacht in Fiskardo and it is a love at first site. The year 1998 is significant. Due to diving restriction in Greece Andreas is forced to crete an athletic club. The Fiskardo's Nautical and Environmental Club is created on the 26/7/1998 and the abbreviation FNEC will be the known and in daily use, name of the club. In August 1998 after a rather dramatic incidence Andreas and his partner discover an ancient Roman Shipwreck lying at the bottom of the see. The wreck is dated approximately 200 BC and is a cargo ship carrying Amphorae. The discovery of the ship wreck was meant to be the beginning of the glorious history of FNEC. In 2007 FNEC is giving its place to the today known Hellenic Foundation for Youth and Volunteering

In order to finance the running projects the club operate a professional PADI Dive centre, where visitors of our area can enjoy the full PADI SCUBA diving programs and courses as well as the amazing JUST 4 YOU marine experience that will highlight your holidays.
